Family Jäger

A short retrospect of Hochkrumbach’s past

Hochkrumbach was settled around 700 years ago by the Walser people from the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The Walsers built a small church and a school on the small hill "Simmel".

There was a court on the Tschirggen (field name). In its heyday, over 70 people lived all year round on 14 farms in Hochkrumbach. After the Arlberg railway went into operation, the farmers of Hochkrumbach lost an important sideline - the transport of salt from Hall in Tyrol to southern Germany.

Already in 1840, half of the inhabitants had moved to Lechtal, Bregenzerwald or Warth. Hochkrumbach was labelled the poorest municipality in the country. The last inhabitants left the village in 1856. From this time onwards, only the Adler inn was inhabited all year round.

In old records, the owner is soon referred to as "Leutgeb Strolz" (innkeeper, gives people food and drink). The once independent community was incorporated into Warth in 1884.

The Jägeralpe has been owned by the family of Oskar Jäger senior grandfather and great-grandfather of the current owners Oskar and Oswald Jäger since 1934 and was only inhabited during the summer months until 1967.

It was run as a cheese alp with 43 cows and around 15 young cattle. In 1967, his son Oswald and his wife Hedwig took over the Jägeralpe and built an inn with overnight accommodation. Since then, the Jägeralpe has been inhabited all year round.

In 1978, their son Oskar and his wife Johanna took over the Jägeralpe and continuously developed it into a 4-star superior family hotel with every comfort. Oskar and Johanna have three children. Oswald, Verena and Brigitte. Verena is married to Ralf Braun and lives in the Schwarzwald. She ran the Hochalphütte for a long time. Brigitte, married to Marcel Moll, opened Alphus Appartements (also in Hochkrumbach) together with her husband in the 2012-13 winter season.

Since 2015 Oswald has taken over the Jägeralpe, which is now in the fourth generation of the family Jäger. With the construction of the new Sporthaus he decided to aim for a higher classification, and was rewarded with 4-stars superior. Oswald, together with his wife Jasmin, their children Oskar and Marilena, and his parents, has one aim, to ensure that his guests have an unforgettable time in the Jägeralpe. An experience that lasts.

From the beginning of the Jägeralpe to the present day, we have always endeavoured to process local goods to give our guests an understanding of our closeness to nature and our home.
